Summer Reading Program to start with June 25 party

Those who sign up for the Summer Reading Program at the party will get to take home a free book to start their summer of reading. The children’s Summer Reading Program theme is “Dig Into Reading!” and for teens it’s “A Grimm Summer.”
There will also be registration during the party for the Teen Read group. Those who sign up will receive a free book.
It’s important for children to continue reading in the summer. According to United We Serve — President Barack Obama’s nationwide service initiative — reading five books over the summer can prevent learning loss.
Kids engaged in summer reading activities are better prepared for the new academic year, show improvement in spelling, writing style, vocabulary, and grammatical development. The number of books read during summer is consistently related to academic gains.
The complete Summer Reading Program schedule will be available in the July/August edition of the library’s newsletter.
