Library to participate in statewide Makers Day on March 19

NJMakersDaylogoThe Atlantic City Free Public Library will serve as a host site for the second annual New Jersey Makers Day on Saturday, March 19. This event will give people of all ages an opportunity to participate in maker-related activities and collaborative projects from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Main Library’s Teen Makerspace and meeting room, both located on the second floor.
The day’s activities will include:
•    Green Screen Photoshop Booth (10 a.m. to 3 p.m.) — Participants will be photographed in front of the green screen and choose which background they want Photoshopped behind them. Participants will have the option of having their photo e-mailed to them.
•    Demonstration Tables (10 a.m. to 3 p.m.) — Learn about the technology and tools that are available in the Makerspace, including: 3D printer, physical computing with Picoboard and Scratch, performing and producing music with Ableton Live + Push Touchpad, sewing machine, t-shirt design with the silhouette cutter, button maker, STEM learning toys for kids, and knitting and crocheting.
•    Atlantic City Collaborative Poem and Video (10 a.m. to 3 p.m.) — The public is invited to audio record a one-, three- or five-word line to be added to a collaborative poem, with or without video. The lines will later be arranged into a piece of poetry by library staff.
•    Statewide Project: 3D Giant Marble Run (11 a.m. to 12 p.m.) – Participants will use everyday items to create a track to run marbles.
•    Story Time: “Rosie Revere, Engineer” (1 to 1:30 p.m.) – Hear the story of a young girl named Rosie Revere, who is a brilliant inventor of gizmos and gadgets.
•    Statewide Craft: Light-up Bookmarks (1:30 to 2 p.m.) — Create an LED bookmark  to take home.

Since the Atlantic City Library Makerspace opened in April 2014, local teens have been invited to “Make AC: Dream It, Design It, Do It.” The Makerspace features a variety of technology and tools, including a 3-D printer, digital audio recording, photography and video equipment, robotics, sewing machine and fiber arts, and more.
