Author Turiya Raheem to discuss her new book May 7

Why We Chose This WayThe Atlantic City Free Public Library will hold an author book talk — featuring Turiya S.A. Raheem — on Saturday, May 7, at 2 p.m. She will talk about her new book, “Why We Chose This Way,” which takes the reader inside the diverse lives of African-American Muslim women.

Learn how these women grew up, how and why they chose Al-Islam as their way of life, their personal journeys and, finally, why they still choose to be Muslim despite the many negative portrayals of the religion and its women in today’s world.

This talk is being held in conjunction with a current library exhibit — Mosque No. 10 and the African-American Islamic Community in Atlantic City and South Jersey.

Raheem is also the author of “Growing Up in the Other Atlantic City: Wash’s and the Northside.”

The program is free. Raheem will have copies of “Why We Chose This Way” for sale. Call (609) 345-2269, ext. 3062, for more information.
