AC Convention CenterThe Atlantic City Historical Museum – presented by the Atlantic City Free Public Library – will host a discussion, “The Atlantic City Experience: The Roaring ’20s,” at 11 a.m. Oct. 13. The talk, which will be held in the museum’s board room, is free and open to the public.
Vicki Gold Levi and Heather Halpin Perez, who are historical consultants for HBO’s smash-hit series “Boardwalk Empire,” will be the guest speakers.
IMAGE: The construction of Convention Hall will be among the 1920s highlights that will be covered.
Levi, co-author of “Atlantic City, 125 Years of Ocean Madness,” will discuss the culture of the 1920s, including the music, movies and clothing. Also, Levi will talk about her father, Al Gold, the city’s first official photographer, plus some personal experiences, including her work for Boardwalk Empire.
Perez, who is the archivist for the library’s Alfred M. Heston Collection of Atlantic City history, will discuss some of the city’s biggest names, including Enoch “Nucky” Johnson. She will also touch on a variety of highlights from the decade, such as the construction of the World War I Memorial and Convention Hall.
The Atlantic City Historical Museum is open 10 a.m.-5 p.m. seven days a week. Visitors can enjoy exhibits of Atlantic City in the 1920s, Mr. Peanut, Kentucky Avenue and Miss America – plus vintage photographs and local artifacts.
