Library staff mourns sudden passing of colleague Providencia Colon

ProviThe Atlantic City Free Public Library recently lost a beloved friend and colleague. Providencia Colon, 48, who worked at the library since 1986, passed away in late April due to injuries sustained in an automobile accident.

Provi was well liked by her co-workers for her kindness, thoughtfulness, and calm and positive demeanor. She was the kind of person who never had a bad word to say about anybody.

In the days following her death, staff members fondly remembered how she took a genuine interest in their personal lives, her smile and kind gestures, her work ethic and willingness to tackle whatever job she was asked to do, and her impact on their lives.

Though she was quiet and avoided the limelight, Provi was a familiar and welcome face to our public. She worked in several visible roles — including at the Circulation, Help and Youth Services desks — assisting library customers, many of whom wrote letters commending her for her customer service. Provi handled many jobs behind the scenes, including maintaining the Magazines section.

The Atlantic City Free Public Library staff will miss her dearly.
