Historical Museum at Garden Pier now closed

Mr. PThe Atlantic City Historical Museum, presented by the Atlantic City Free Public Library, closed its Garden Pier location Aug. 6 due to the pending sale of the pier.
The Library is committed to preserving and sharing the rich history of Atlantic City. The Library is working to finalize plans for the relocation of the Museum and exploring additional options to make the exhibits accessible to the public.
The Main Library, located at One North Tennessee Avenue, houses the Atlantic City Heritage Collections – an extensive array of resources dedicated to the city’s history. That collection includes a wealth of published and unpublished works, including photographs, postcards and memorabilia. The Library created the website www.atlanticcityexperience.org, which highlights some of the people and moments that have helped shape the city. The Library has developed and made available through its website – www.acfpl.org – an Atlantic City Historical Markers Guide and Atlantic City Sports History Map.
The Atlantic City Historical Museum at Garden Pier was co-founded by Vicki Gold Levi and Anthony Kutschera in 1985, showcasing the culturally diverse and exciting history of Atlantic City in a nostalgic timeline. Throughout its years of operation the Historical Museum has functioned with the cooperation and partnership of the City of Atlantic City.
The Library assumed management of the Historical Museum in 2012, when Museum Chairman Bob Ruffolo and Vice Chairman Herb Stern, along with the Museum Board, transferred the collection and operations to the Library, which is a service of the City of Atlantic City.
The Library incorporated items from its Atlantic City Heritage Collections into the Historical Museum for exhibits. Also, it partnered with community organizations to display their collections at the Museum. The Library was named a recipient of a 2016 New Jersey State Library Multicultural Award for its “Atlantic City Experience: La Ciudad Atlántica” exhibit, which has been on display at the Historical Museum since October. The exhibit – funded through a project grant from the New Jersey Historical Commission, a division of the Department of State – includes photos from the collections of local organizations, city residents and the Atlantic City Heritage Collections.
